The Delta Tau Delta, Rho Chapter house is dry until further review on January 28, 2008. This sanction was handed down due to excessive damage to fraternity property and violation of the campus-wide Greek Risk Management/Drug & Alcohol Policy.
Some of the rules for Greek life on campus are as follows:
•The possession, sale, use and/or consumption of alcohol beverages while on chapter premises must be in compliance with any and all applicable laws.
•No alcoholic beverages may be purchased through the chapter treasury.
•The purchase and/or use of a bulk quantity of alcoholic beverages (i.e. kegs) is prohibited.
•No chapter members shall purchase, serve or sell alcoholic beverages to any minor.
•Open parties, meaning those open to all, where alcohol is present, shall be prohibited.
•No member shall permit, tolerate, encourage or participate in "drinking games."
[The full list of regulations can be found at the Student Life website.]
In the next few weeks, there will be a raffle table outside of Pierce to support the national Delt philanthropy, Bleed Purple.
The Stute embarked on a road trip this past Tuesday evening to gather first-hand knowledge of the inner workings of the Yale Daily News (YDN). Being a daily newspaper, the YDN holds layout every night, giving The Stute the opportunity to observe. The larger staff of the YDN occupies an entire building on campus with multiple floors, including rooms for writers, layout staff, the publisher, the editor-in-chief and the web czar. While the duration of the visit lasted as long as the drive time each way, The Stute's layout staff was able to observe the larger layout staff of the YDN, and everyone gathered tips from the YDN's editor-in-chief. The most important of these tips involved recruiting more members.
While The Stute has made great advances this past year, most noticeably by this summer's switch to a larger newspaper format, the trip to Yale was a valuable experience for those members in attendance.
