Equestrian team opens 2007-08 season

Sophomore Rosemary Garofalo collected seven individual points as the Stevens Institute of Technology equestrian team opened its 2007-08 season on Sunday at the Drew University and Sarah Lawrence College Show at Briarwood Farm in Readington, N.J. The Ducks finished in a tie for seventh place with Vassar College in the 12-team field.
Centenary College earned high-point college honors with a score of 39. Drew was second with 35 points. The United States Military Academy claimed third place with a team total of 34. Pace University (31), SUNY New Paltz (30) and SUNY Oneonta finished fourth through sixth, respectively. Stevens and Vassar each totaled 22 points. Sarah Lawrence (20), Bard College (16), William Paterson University (8) and Marist College (7) rounded out the field.
Garofalo picked up seven points for the Ducks as she finished second in novice on the flat and fifth in novice over fences. Senior Katie Weatherall totaled one point with her sixth-place finish as the point-rider for Stevens in open over fences. Weatherall also collected five individual points with a second-place showing in open on the flat.
Sophomore Kahri Olsen competed in both the open on the flat and intermediate over fences. She finished fifth and fourth, respectively, in her classes to record five points for Stevens. Junior Courtney Lorah was third in the intermediate on the flat, which added four points to the Ducks' total for the day.
Sophomore Constance Maglaras began her second season with the team by finishing sixth in the walk-trot. Freshman Angela Parriott was second in the walk-trot-cantor in her collegiate debut.
Even though they were not the point-riders for Stevens, sophomores Jamie Fishbein and Kate Crane performed well. Fishbein recorded a third-place finish in novice on the flat. She was also fifth in her class in novice over fences. Crane ended up third in the walk-trot-cantor.
