Castle Point Terrace upon which many of the Greek fraternities and sororities of Stevens Institute of Technology make their home has long been the subject of confusion amongst the student body as to whether it was a two-way street or a one-way street. In recent weeks many students have received tickets from police for alleged illegal parking on CPT. One such incident escalated into a physical altercation between a student and a police officer.
Hank Dobbelaar, Distinguished Service Professor and Vice President of Facilities firmly stated that "it [Castle Point Terrace] is a two-way street" and added that the confusion arose from an ordinance the city of Hoboken passed some years ago. The ordinance switched from parallel parking on both sides of Castle Point Terrace to angled parking on one side. This in turn caused a decrease in total parking space which led to a simultaneous increase in traffic and congestion.
