Ever since she was a young girl, it was Sora Naegino's dream to perform on the Kaleido Stage. Several years later, Sora travels to the United States from her home in Japan to try out to become a performer on the stage and hopefully get a chance at fulfilling her dream. The Kaleido Stage is a very colorful, magical stage that is very well known for its physics-defying stunts and fairytale-themed shows. The stage also has a secret - there is a "spirit of the stage" named Fool, who is an apparition of a small, mask-clad, tarot card-weilding man. Whoever can see the spirit of the stage is chosen by the stage to perform the legendary "Great Maneuver", but without proper training or a number of other requirements, it can be deadly.
Kaleido Stage is a very imaginative, invigorating, and "amazing" show. The characters are very creative, and each has his or her own personality. Sora is very honest and determined, Fool is kind but very perverted and not everyone is who they seem to be. The physic-defying acrobatics mixed with beautiful, colorful backgrounds and costumes is quite a spectacle to behold. The story of Sora's growth as a performer and her steadfast determination is inspiring. There are some points in the anime where footage is recycled but nothing ever feels like filler and the story still flows along, filled with laughs, drama, and surprises.
