Women's Tennis blanks Kean to improve to 6-0 on the year

Senior Dana Bacalla, junior Whitney Bender and freshman Allyson Kingman all improved to 6-0 in singles play this season as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team remained unbeaten with a 9-0 victory over Kean University on Wednesday in Union, N.J. With the win, the Ducks ran their overall record to 6-0 on the year. The Cougars dropped to 0-2 with the loss.

At No. 1 doubles, Bacalla and Kingman improved to 6-0 as they earned an 8-0 victory over senior Danielle Fardin and freshman Lisette LaForge. Junior Rebecca Ryba teamed with Bender for an 8-4 win against senior Laura Kuchar and freshman Olivia Shapiro at second doubles. Sophomore Natalie Schloeder and freshman Kendra Appleheimer topped sophomore Michelle Tofel and freshman Katherin Arauz by the score of 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.

In singles action, Bacalla rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Fardin in the first flight. Bender dropped a total of three games in her 6-0, 6-3 win against LaForge at second singles. Kingman earned a hard-fought 7-6 (8-6), 6-1 win over freshman LaShanna Armour in the third flight. Appleheimer rolled past Shapiro (6-1, 6-2) at fourth singles. Ryba was victorious in her match against Arauz in the fifth flight (6-0, 6-4). Schloeder needed three sets to knock off freshman Jessica Oquendo at No. 6 singles. The score of that match was 6-4, 4-6, 12-10 in favor of the Ducks.
