Dell is set to release flash-media based laptops to consumers. The new technology should allow almost instant-on access to the system, something that has long been anticipated in technical circles, and should help the portability of such machines. Apple has included this technology in its portables since last year.

Acer announced that it will be recalling all of its laptops that run with Sony batteries. This move comes several months after last year's recalls by Dell and Apple, both of whom had systems overheat and in some cases explode from the faulty batteries. The faults are caused when metal particles in the battery come into contact with the normally nonconductive walls of the battery.

Former Apple CFO Fred Andersen and General Counsel Nancy Heinen were charged with backdating stocks by the Securities and Exchange Commission. The move was said to have netted the two approximately $20 million USD. Although the SEC announced that CEO Steve Jobs is not under investigation, Andersen still made public allegations against Jobs. Apple responded by announcing it would cooperate only with the SEC and will not debate the matter publicly

On Sunday Nintendo of America released the two newest games in the wildly popular Pokémon series, Diamond and Pearl, available for the company's DS portable system. Anticipation was so high that the titles had preorder counts rising to near a combined five-hundred thousand. By Wednesday the titles had sold a combined million copies, making it the one of the fastest selling games in history. Although two titles were released as separate products, they share so many similarities that they can be reported as one unit.
