Strong Doubles Play Carries Men's Tennis to 7-2 Win over Ramapo

After sweeping all three doubles contests, the Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team won four of six singles matches as the Ducks earned a 7-2 non-conference victory over Ramapo College on Saturday in Hoboken, N.J. With the win, Stevens improved to 11-7 on the year. The Roadrunners fell to 6-2 overall with the loss.
Junior Ricky Bawa and freshman Piotr Rusinkiewicz defeated senior Ross Switkes and freshman Alan Kats by the score of 8-3 at No. 1 doubles. Senior Boris Kocherov and junior Arjun Mehta followed with an 8-5 win at second doubles. Sophomore Kobe Attias and freshman Russ Suereth added an 8-2 victory in the third flight.
Bawa earned a straight-sets victory (6-2, 6-1) over Kats at first singles. Kocherov needed three sets (6-1, 4-6, 7-5) to knock off Switkes. Rusinkiewicz dropped a tough three-set match (4-6, 6-2, 6-3) to sophomore Keith Dobrin at No. 3 singles. Mehta lost in a third-set tiebreaker to junior Joe Marino at fourth singles by the score of 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7). Attias recorded a 6-3, 6-4 victory against senior Scott Seaman at No. 5 singles. Senior Ian Mullican rallied after losing the first set to post a 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 1-0 (11-9) win over junior Jeff Shau.
