Men's Lacrosse Continues to Roll with 17-5 Win over Farmingdale

Senior attack Joe Van Sickle scored five goals (all of which came in the first half) for the second game in a row as the Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team picked up its seventh win in a row with a 17-5 victory over Farmingdale State College on Tuesday afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y. The ninth-ranked Ducks scored the first 11 goals of the game and led 14-1 at halftime as they improved to 12-2 overall. Stevens (9-0 Skyline Conference) also capped yet another perfect regular season in conference play with Tuesday's win.
Senior defender Josh Smith opened the scoring with an unassisted goal just 65 seconds into the contest. Senior midfielder Matt Althauser sandwiched a pair of goals around a tally by senior midfielder Stephen Pascone as the Ducks opened a 4-0 lead after the first eight minutes.
Following a goal by sophomore midfielder Eric Smith, Van Sickle scored back-to-back goals to extend the margin to 7-0. After two straight goals by junior attack J.R. Oreskovich, sophomore midfielder Matt Keating and Van Sickle both scored as the Ducks went on top 11-0 with 6:52 left in the second quarter.
Farmingdale (3-10, 3-5 Skyline), which has lost three games in a row, finally got on the board with just under five minutes remaining in the second quarter as junior attack Jeremy Goohs found the back of the net. Stevens closed out the first half with back-to-back goals by Van Sickle and another from senior midfielder Mark Bielicky as the Ducks carried a 14-1 lead into intermission.
Oreskovich finished with two goals and three assists. Freshman attack Alex Couture and Althauser had two goals apiece. Freshman attack Josh Holmes contributed three assists in the victory. Freshman midfielder Bobby Steinhauser was 12-for-15 in faceoffs and collected a team-high eight ground balls.
Meanwhile, freshman midfielder Brett Robison won five faceoffs and grabbed four ground balls. Sophomore attack Brian Reckdenwald added four ground balls. Senior goalkeeper Jack Dunderdale improved to 12-2 on the year as he made five saves. Dunderdale allowed just one goal over 30 minutes of action. Junior goalkeeper Corey Vaillancourt made nine saves and allowed two goals in 24 minutes off the bench.
The Rams were led by freshman midfielder Paul Randazzo, who totaled two goals in the contest. Senior midfielder Ryan LaFlare registered a game-high nine ground balls. Senior defender Rob Hattenrath finished with four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Senior goalkeeper Kevin Winters surrendered 14 goals and made 12 saves in the first half.
Stevens out-shot Farmingdale 55-28 in the game. The Ducks won 18 of 25 faceoffs and were 9-for-9 in clearing attempts. The Rams converted on 12 of their 21 (57.1 percent) clears. Stevens was 2-for-4 in extra-man opportunities.
