The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team dropped a 9-5 decision to William Paterson University on Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore Joe Gunshor finished 2-for-5 to lead the Ducks on the day. With the loss, Stevens now stands at 12-14 overall, while the Pioneers improved to 14-11-2.

Senior Ryan Birkenstock went 1-for-5 with one RBI, while senior Andrew Tesoriero 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Stevens started the game with a pair of unearned runs to take an early 2-0 lead in the first frame. The Ducks led off the inning with singles by freshman Russ Grimes and Gunshor. Senior Adam Sandt singled to score Grimes and Gunshor for the early advantage.

William Paterson knocked in five unearned runs in the bottom of the second and never looked back. Senior Ryan Brand plated the Pioneers first run with a single through the right side of the infield. William Paterson added three more runs on a two-out error by the Ducks' right fielder and senior Wayne Poppe scored the fifth and final run of the inning after a wild pitch.

The Pioneers tacked on three more runs to open up an 8-2 lead in the fourth inning. They added their final run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by junior Dan Limone.

Stevens closed to within four as it added three additional runs in top of the seventh. Freshman Eddie Daniele doubled to lead off the frame and scored on a single through the right side by sophomore Dan Silva. Freshman Anthony Andrews and Gunshor added back-to-back singles to load the bases. With one out, Birkenstock singled through the left side to score Silva. Tesoriero then reached on a fielder's choice to score Andrews. That was the closest the Ducks would get in the game.

Senior Eric McCormick suffered the loss for the Ducks as he gave up eight runs on six hits.
