- One day after setting the school's single-game record with 13 points during a win over Ohio Wesleyan University, junior attack J.R. Oreskovich was right back at it as he tallied four goals and an assist to lead the ninth-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team to a 19-7 win over Manhattanville College on Monday in Purchase, N.Y. Playing back-to-back days following a flight back from Ohio, the Ducks avoided a letdown as they jumped out to a 15-2 halftime lead and cruised to their fifth win in a row.
Tied at 1-1 just over five minutes into the game, Stevens (10-2, 7-0 Skyline) scored 12 unanswered goals of the final 9:52 of the first quarter and the opening 11 minutes of the second period to pull away from the Valiants. Sophomore attack Matt Keating started the run with an unassisted goal. In fact, Keating scored all three of his goals in the game during that decisive spurt. Meanwhile, Oreskovich collected all five of his points in that stretch as well. Senior midfielder Matt Althauser totaled three goals to bolster the attack.
The Ducks were never really threatened in the game as they led 8-1 after one quarter and 15-2 at the break. Manhattanville (3-7, 0-5 Skyline), which has lost seven games in a row, played Stevens to a 4-4 draw in the second half.
Senior goalkeeper Jack Dunderdale faced just two shots and made one save in 15 minutes of work. Dunderdale left after one quarter as the Ducks opened a seven-goal cushion. The win was his 10th of the season so far.
Junior goalkeeper Corey Vaillancourt made four saves and allowed three goals over 25 minutes. Sophomore goalkeeper Burke Reynolds stopped seven shots in 20 minutes.
A total of 33 players saw time for Stevens. In fact, 15 different Ducks registered at least a point in the game. Senior midfielder Mark Bielicky, sophomore midfielder Alex Heckman and freshman midfielder Derek Straub had two goals apiece.
Meanwhile, senior midfielder Steven Suggs won six faceoffs for the Ducks. Freshman midfielder Brett Robison was 4-for-6 in faceoffs on the day.
Sophomore attack Shannon Sturz registered four goals and an assist for the Valiants. Sophomore midfielder Scott Montaldo won 11 faceoffs. Sophomore defender Scott DiVito finished with a team-high four ground balls.
Stevens out-shot Manhattanville 53-33 in the game. The Ducks won 17 of 28 faceoffs and were successful on 10 of 11 (90.9 percent) clearing attempts overall. The Valiants were 12-for-17 (70.6 percent) in clears.
