Kurt Vonnegut Passes Away
Author Kurt Vonnegut died Wednesday night at the age of 84 from brain damage caused by a fall several weeks ago. Vonnegut is considered one of the best writers of the twentieth century, penning influential novels including Slaughterhouse-Five and Cat's Cradle, two of fourteen novels plus a large volume of short stories and other works.
White House "misplaced" emails resemble "eighteen-minute" audio gap
The White House came under fire this week as it was revealed that many emails pertaining to the eight fired federal prosecutors have been deleted or are otherwise missing. The main point of controversy is that the messages were not stored on the official White House server, as is required by law, but rather servers run privately by the Republican Party. Some are saying that the missing messages are a parallel to the "eighteen minutes" of missing audio tape from former President Richard Nixon's impeachment trial, which is believed to be the most damning evidence.
Charges Dropped in Duke Sexual Assault Case
Two former Duke University lacrosse players were pronounced innocent of sexual assault charges on Thursday. The North Carolina District Attorney rejected the idea that Michael Nifong, the Durham County DA who brought the charges against the two men, was a "rogue" DA, but that he was more concerned about his own agenda and career than in doing full fact checks.
Radio host under heavy criticism for racist comments
Radio personality Don Imus continues to come under heavy fire for his racist and misogynist remarks last week about the Rutgers University women's basketball team who won their NCAA Basketball Tournament . On Tuesday he was suspended for two weeks, beginning April 16, but calls for his permanent removal have continued. MSNBC, which simulcasts a video of his program, has had advertisers remove all ads from its daytime lineup, and several CBS Radio stations, which carry the audio program, have also come under fire for continuing to air his program.
