Men's Tennis Defeats Rutgers-Newark for Sixth Straight Win

On Tuesday afternoon, the Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team rolled to its sixth straight win as the Ducks claimed an 8-1 victory over visiting Rutgers-Newark at the Stevens Tennis Courts in Hoboken, N.J. The loss snapped a two-game win streak for the Scarlet Raiders as they fell to 3-2 on the season. Stevens ran its record to 10-6 overall with the victory.
At No. 1 doubles, junior Ricky Bawa and freshman Piotr Rusinkiewicz handed the freshmen tandem of Kevin Santos and Lam Nguyen their first loss of the season as the duo fell to 4-1 overall. Bawa and Rusinkiewicz won the match 8-0. Senior Boris Kocherov and junior Arjun Mehta recorded an 8-2 victory at second doubles against sophomores Cirio de Jesus and Ryan Chadha. Stevens added an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles as sophomore Kobe Attias and freshman Russ Suereth defeated junior Baris Sonmez and freshman Brian Barbera.
Bawa led off singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Santos in the first flight. Kocherov followed with a 6-2, 6-1 victory against previously-unbeaten de Jesus (4-1) at second singles. Rusinkiewicz earned a straight-sets victory (6-4, 6-4) against Sonmez at No. 3 singles. Mehta recorded a 6-2, 6-2 win over Chadha in the fourth flight. Rutgers-Newark picked up its lone win of the day at fifth singles as junior Matt Milwicz rallied after losing the first set to beat senior Ian Mullican by the score of 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8). Attias closed out the day with a 7-6 (7-1), 6-2 victory against Nguyen at sixth singles.
