Borzillo Leads Women's Lacrosse Past RIT

Freshman midfielder Kara Borzillo netted what proved to be the game-winner as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team defeated Rochester Institute of Technology, 9-8, on Sunday evening in Hoboken, N.J. With the win, Stevens improved to 1-1, while Rochester dropped to 0-1 with the loss.
Stevens scored three goals within the last 11:47 of the game to erase a two-goal deficit. Sophomore defender/midfielder Cassidy Callahan brought Stevens within one, 8-7 on a free position shot. Sophomore attack/midfielder Kaitlyn Roes tied the score 8-8 on an unassisted goal with 6:51 remaining. Borzillo netted the game-winner 50 seconds later off a pass from sophomore attack Dana Perriello from behind the net.
Down two at the half, 6-4, Callahan netted her first score of the game to cut the Tigers' lead to one. However, Rochester's senior attack/midfielder Lisette Silver scored on a free position goal to put the Tigers back on top, 7-5. Perriello added her second tally of the day with 16:36 to play to bring the Ducks back to within one goal. Junior attack Krissy Welch collected her second goal of the season with 15:10 remaining to give RIT an 8-6 advantage.
Perriello, Pigott and Callahan all netted two goals apiece for the Ducks. Freshman attack Katie Lalli, Roes and Borzillo picked up one goal each. Perriello picked up two assists and Pigott had one.
Stevens out-shot Rochester 28-15 in the game.
Junior Stephanie Linder made six saves for the Ducks while sophomore Kelsey Evans (Carlisle, Pa.) had 12 for the Tigers.
