Mr. Aaron Blum:
I get the impression that you don't understand the point Mr. Sadlon was making. Elliot opposes the waste of time known as the "Honors Seminars," not the Stevens Scholar program itself. Being a fellow Honors Student, I agree very much with Mr. Sadlon that the weekly sessions are completely without any benefit to me and, as is the general feeling I get from the class, every one else in it.
Mr. Sadlon addressed the point of "well-roundedness" in his article as well, and while there is something to be said about taking learning from all areas of educational pursuits, let's be frank, that's what high school is for.
Lastly, Mr. Sadlon suggested that students be given a packet of all the research being done at Stevens. To quote, "A list given out to incoming freshmen at orientation outlining each department's contacts and current research would provide the students with enough information to find which department would most interest and most benefit him or her," rendering the current seminars completely unnecessary and without merit (not that that's not already the opinion I have of them).
So, in short, Mr. Sadlon does not oppose the scholars program itself, but the pointless honors seminar as a requisite for Scholar membership.
Rebuttley,
Daniel
