To start off the semester we once again ventured off Washington Street looking for a less known restaurant. The result: Café Michelina. Located on the corner of 5th and Bloomfield, Café Michelina offers a quiet dining experience away from the hustle and bustle of Hoboken. A small dining room keeps this restaurant filled, and we were lucky to get a table with no wait.
The meal started not only with a basket of bread for the table, but with a small bruschetta dish for each guest. This, coupled with speedy service, is a nice touch for those that cannot wait to begin eating.
Choosing an entrée was a difficult task due to lengthy list of specials as well as a menu filled with tasty choices. In the end Kelsea decided on Fettuccini Alfredo. The dish seemed smaller than the other dishes in the dining room, but made up for its size in quality. The noodles were cooked to perfection and drenched in a smooth, creamy Alfredo sauce, which was also perfect for dipping bread.
Mike opted for a red sauce and ordered Calamari Alla Marinara. The dish was as good as it sounds. A large portion of your choice of spaghetti or linguini is tossed with red sauce and piled with pieces of calamari. Normally a seafood dish like so would contain a few piece of calamari, 15 at most, not at Café Michelina. The dish almost had more calamari then pasta, perfect for the seafood lover!
The whole meal came out to less then $30, with the Fettuccini costing $12 and the Calamari costing only $15. Café Michelina offers great service and intriguing specials along with a competitive price. We would highly recommend this Italian eatery to anyone looking for a quick meal, or a nice dinner. Bon Appetite!
