THROGGS NECK, N.Y (October 11, 2006) - Freshman midfielder Alicia Vandersluis (Colorado Springs, Colo.) established a new team record for the fastest goal to start a game as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team rolled to a 10-0 victory over Maritime College on Wednesday in Throggs Neck, N.Y. Riding an eight-game unbeaten streak (7-0-1), the Ducks are now 8-2-3 overall and 4-0 in the Skyline Conference. The Privateers remained winless on the season as they fell to 0-8 (0-5 Skyline).

On the opening kickoff, Maritime lost control of the ball as Stevens junior forward/back Sara Roeder (Portland, Ore.) deflected a pass right to junior forward Nicole Migliore (Stratford, N.J.), who quickly crossed the ball to Vandersluis on the right side about 18 yards from the net. Vandersluis ripped a shot off the volley that sailed over the head of senior goalkeeper Kristen Johnston (Staten Island, N.Y.) and into the back of the goal just 10 seconds into the contest.

The previous record for the fastest goal to start a game for Stevens occurred on September 29, 2004 when Valerie Barnhart (Gilbertsville, Pa.) scored 26 seconds into a 10-0 win over Mount Saint Mary College.

The Ducks wasted little time adding to their early lead against the Privateers as junior midfielder Cristina Fulgencio (Staten Island, N.Y.) found Roeder for the first of her three goals in the game just 1:45 after Vandersluis scored. Back-to-back goals by senior midfielder Heather Dean (Renton, Wash.) extended the margin to 4-0 within the first 20 minutes of the game. Roeder and Fulgencio hooked up for two more goals in the first half as Stevens grabbed an 8-0 lead at the break.

In all, 13 players registered at least a point for Stevens. Sophomore forward Meghan Tennyson (Folsom, La.) had two goals and an assist. Freshman midfielder Leslie Kallberg (Mission Viejo, Calif.) tallied her second goal in as many games. Sophomore midfielder Audra Clark (Dallas, Texas) also scored for the Ducks. Fulgencio finished with three assists.

For the game, Stevens out-shot Maritime 45-1. The Ducks also owned a 10-0 edge in corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper Erica Midttveit (Jackson, N.J.) picked up her seventh win of the season without having to make a save. Johnston made 17 stops in the loss.

With its victory against Maritime, Stevens has won 44 straight games against conference opponents, which ranks as the fifth-longest conference win streak in Division III women's soccer history. Ironically, Wednesday marked the six-year anniversary of the start of the Ducks' streak, which began on October 11, 2000.

Stevens will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts Mount Saint Mary at 3 p.m.
