Tutta Pasta soared above our expectations with a classy, Italian environment and quality food. A vibrant mood was created thanks to the glass front of the restaurant, which provided plenty of natural lighting and the up-beat feel of Washington Street. A large portion of the interior was decorated with stone and statues atop white pillars capped the Italian atmosphere. The room was open and the tables were spaced well. Outdoor seating was also available since the weather this weekend was so favorable.
A nicely dressed wait staff was prompt to help us without smothering us. Our waiter quickly seated us and brought us drinks, but did not hover around the table rushing us for our order. He answered our questions and seemed genuinely interested in whether or not we were enjoying our meal.
We started with an appetizer of Mozzarella Caprese. This dish consisted of slices of mozzarella and tomatoes accompanied by black olives and red peppers, all coated with a light layer of oil and vinegar. Everything was fresh, sweet and delightful. We had a similar appetizer at Da Vinci a few weeks ago and the consensus was that Tutta Pasta's dish topped Da Vinci's. Da Vinci's mozzarella was a tad better than Tutta Pasta's, but the sweetness of the peppers and tasty addition of the oil and vinegar was that little extra that made Tutta Pasta's dish absolutely marvelous.
While Tutta Pasta offers a variety of entrées, including chicken, veal and seafood, we both opted for pasta. Tutta Pasta boasts homemade pasta noodles and we did not want to pass up the chance to experience this rarity.
Mike was on the fence between Pasta Bolognese and a mushroom pasta dish. The waiter was more than happy to combine the two into Pasta Bolognese con Fungi for an up-charge of only one dollar. The dish was excellent. The sauce was light on the meat, however the chef did not hold back on the addition of the mushrooms.
Kelsea was going to order a dish called Fiesta Italiana, but the waiter informed her that due to its popularity, certain necessary ingredients had been depleted the previous night. Kelsea opted for the Linguini Carbonara instead. The sauce was superb - thick and creamy, topped with chunks of Italian bacon.
The portions of both pasta dishes were enormous. The homemade noodles had a good consistency and were cooked to perfection. The texture and taste of the homemade pasta was clearly better than that of boxed pasta.
The price was average. The pasta dishes ranged from $10-15. This is a very reasonable price for homemade pasta. The other entrées ranged from $15-25. If you dine at Tutta Pasta between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, you can capitalize on their lunch special. This special includes an appetizer, entrée and drink for only $11.95.
Tutta Pasta is located on the corner of Washington and Second. It is our new Hoboken Italian Restaurant of choice.
