The Architecture and Civil Engineering Society (ACES) is a recently formed, student-led organization. The group intends to explore the different aspects of both fields and have fun at the same time. Vice President Victoria Calcagni explained, "Architecture and structural engineering are so intertwined, a professional would need to understand both fields to be successful in either." ACES welcomes all students to join them, regardless of intended professional goals.
Last Friday the newly formed Architecture and Civil Engineering Society met over cookies to discuss the upcoming semester. The next gathering of ACES will take place this Friday, October 13 at 2:15 p.m. The organization will be showing and discussing the film My Architect by filmmaker Nathaniel Kahn. The film is about Kahn's father, noted architect Louis Kahn. Advisor and Professor La Riche commented, "We're doing a big service to the institute by providing a natural extension to what Stevens already provides."
There are also several trips planned for this semester. ACES is planning to visit Guggenheim Museum's exhibit by international architect Zaha Hadid (http://www.guggenheim.org/hadid/index.html) and the AIA Center for Architecture's Showcase on the New York Times Building (http://www.aiany.org/centerforarchitecture/exhibitions.php). Students interested in either trip should email Vice President Victoria Calcagni (vcalcagn@stevens.edu) for more information.
