Sponsored by the Entertainment Committee, Mind, Magic and Madness came to the Bissinger room to entertain. Performing were Mike Dubois, Chris Cheliko, and Jim Karol who has been seen on the Tonight Show and Good Morning America amongst other shows.
Many more students attended than expected, creating a standing section in the crowd. The show opened up with Mike Dubois and his juggling routine. Mike's performance involved more than juggling, it was comedy as well. He called for a participant to help him. With an onstage participant, and a participant in the audience, hilarity ensued. The jokes were rolling, and with the lack of coordination of the participants, the audience was hysterical. He then amazed the audience with his ability to juggle seven balls at one time.
The next act had Chris Cheliko performing a balloon trick. A balloon filled at one end was inserted into his nose, and then wrapped around through his mouth. This stunt made the audience and his participant from the audience squeamish. It even seemed to scare Chris when the participant began to pull the balloon out in the wrong direction.
Jim Karon came and took the stage. Here he scared and amazed the audience and participants with his stunts. One of the more frightening ones involved a student putting his hand in a bear trap. During this act, the participant and the audience were frightened about what was to come, especially after a pencil was destroyed by the trap. However, Jim himself stuck his hand in the trap to demonstrate the idea that pain is in your mind.
However, the audience was most amused by one of the card tricks. For this trick, a participant selected a card from a standard playing card deck and then reinserted it. Jim then threw the deck at random in the audience. Afterward, he grabbed a flashlight and shined it on the ceiling where the selected card was. This trick amazed everyone in the room. In another instance of the trick, a female participant selected a card out of the deck and reinserted it. Jim then threw the deck of cards at her, and told her to look down her shirt to find her selected card. To everyone's amazement the card she selected appeared there.
Mike and Chris were brought out to perform one of the last stunts of the evening. Chris was to walk on glass with Mike standing on his shoulders while juggling machetes. This stunt ended when Mike dropped the machetes with one landing not more than two inches away from Chris' foot.
To finish the show Jim performed mind tricks for the audience. He would guess people's birthdays and favorite sports team. He also dazzled the audience with his knowledge of capital cities in the world, betting the students $100 that they could not ask him for a capital he did not know. Although it looked like he was stumped on the capital of Georgia, a Soviet Union breakaway country, he surprised everyone when he came up with the answer minuets later. His final actions involved showing students how to perform some of the tricks, and how some of his illusions worked. Most everyone there had a great time at the show, and left wanting more.
