Freshman midfielder Alicia Vandersluis (Colorado Springs, Colo.) scored her first two career goals in leading the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team to an 8-0 victory over the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday at DeBaun Field in Hoboken, N.J. Meanwhile, junior forward/back Sara Roeder (Portland, Ore.) and junior forward Nicole Migliore (Stratford, N.J.) combined for nine points as the Ducks improved to 6-2-3 (3-0 Skyline Conference) on the year.

Junior midfielder Cristina Fulgencio (Staten Island, N.Y.) opened the scoring at the 6:48 mark as she received a ball at the top of the 18-yard box and drilled a shot past junior goalkeeper Alexis Alessi (Rockville Centre, N.Y.). Senior midfielder/forward Megan Legendre (O'Fallon, Ill.) and Roeder assisted on the play. Less than a minute later, junior midfielder Siena York-Carr (Davis, Calif.) played a ball through the Dolphins' defense. All alone on a breakaway, Roeder lofted a high-arching shot over an on-charging Alessi from 25 yards out.

Junior back Salme Cook (Fairfax, Va.) increased the margin to 3-0 as she rifled a close-in shot by the Dolphins' goalkeeper following a corner kick. With a little over 25 minutes remaining in the first half, Vandersluis tallied the first of her two goals as she scored on a breakaway following a lead pass from Cook. Just over 12 minutes later, Vandersluis took advantage of one of the Ducks' three corners in the game as she picked up her second career goal. Legendre rounded out the scoring in the first half as she scored with 4:51 left in the period.

Junior forward Gina Crifasi (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Migliore both found the back of the net in a 54-second span during the first 16 minutes of the second half as the lead ballooned to 8-0.

Migliore finished with a goal and two assists for four points. Roeder had a goal and three assists (five points). Senior goalkeeper Erica Midttveit (Jackson, N.J.) was rarely tested as she made two saves in 45 minutes of action. Freshman goalie Sherri Rosenberg (Bayonne, N.J.) took over in net during the second half.

Alessi, who entered the game with a 1.01 goals against average, allowed all eight goals while making eight saves for the Dolphins (4-2, 2-2 Skyline). Stevens out-shot Mount Saint Vincent 32-2 in the contest.

With the win, the Ducks moved into sole possession of first place in the Skyline Conference. Stevens is 3-0 in league play and has collected nine points so far. Manhattanville College, Centenary College and Mount Saint Vincent all have six points. The Ducks' defense has been huge all year as it has posted shutouts in eight of the last 10 games. In the process, the team's goals against average has dropped to 0.70.

Stevens, which has won 43 straight conference games (sixth-longest in NCAA Division III women's soccer history) since October 11, 2000, is now 5-0 on the year when scoring first. The Ducks are also 4-0 when leading at the half.

On Saturday, Stevens will return to action as it hosts Eastern University at 3 p.m.
