Bai Helps Lead Women's Tennis to 8-1 Win over Kean

After winning two of three doubles matches, the Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team captured all six singles contests en route to posting an 8-1 victory over Kean University on Wednesday in Hoboken, N.J. With the win, the Ducks improved to 5-0 on the year, while the Cougars dropped to 1-6 overall.
At No. 1 doubles, junior Dana Bacalla (Portland, Ore.) and senior Jin Bai (Edison, N.J.) cruised to an 8-0 win over juniors Danielle Fardin (Edison, N.J.) and Laura Kuchar (Metuchen, N.J.). Sophomores Whitney Bender (Tijeras, N.M.) and Rebecca Ryba (Old Brookville, N.Y.) added an 8-1 victory at the second doubles position.
Bacalla improved to 12-2 on the year with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Fardin at No. 1 singles. Bender won 6-2, 6-2 at second singles. Bai and Ryba posted identical 6-2, 6-0 wins at third and fourth singles, respectively. Freshman Tiffany Jow (Aberdeen, N.J.) lost the first set to freshman Michelle Tofel (Union, N.J.) then rallied to claim a 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (3) victory at fifth singles. Junior Jacqueline Carbone (Basking Ridge, N.J.) added a 6-3, 6-2 win over sophomore Andrea Grahlmann (Jackson, N.J.) at No. 6 singles.
Stevens will be in action on Sunday when it travels to Newburgh, N.Y. to take on Mount Saint Mary College in a key Skyline Conference match at 1 p.m.
