VeraTech, a Minnesota-based firm, claims to have developed the technology for a virtually invisible flying scout drone. According to the patent, the device rapidly spins, creating an optical illusion similar to how a helicopter's blades turn invisible when they spin. The "Phantom Sentinel" is a Y-shaped craft with the tail end acting like a propeller. The company's prototype doesn't actually include any scouting equipment, but they are positive a camera can be mounted without inhibiting the craft's aerodynamic design.
In yet another attempt to cure cancer, researchers at the University of Illinois published findings that an antibiotic can suppress cancer growth. Siomycin A targets the FoxM1 gene, which is responsible for cell proliferation. The drug needs more testing against other cell lines but the researchers noted that the findings are promising.
Google launched all sorts of goodies on its website this week, including over 1200 widgets for its personalizable homepage. Multi-site search is being developed as well as a new website called Searchmash(.com), an experimental search website that features unusual result display methods. The last major edition is the new Ajax Search API (Version 1.0), which lets users put an attractive search box for video, news and maps embedded in its websites. More features are probably still under development, and all these new features suggest that good strives to stay up-to-date.
Sony's stock dropped a few points when analyst David Gibson published news of Playstation 3 consoles locking up because of overheating during the recent Tokyo Game Show. Sony representatives claim that the show floor temperature was unusually high, and that it would effect the production. The Playstation 3 might suffer from the same problems as the Xbox 360 from Microsoft that had overheating problems if the system was improperly positioned. The loudness the PS3's cooling system is not clear.
