With the start of the school year our women's field hockey team opens a new chapter in Stevens history, competing for the first time in the Empire 8 division as well as Division III. Off to a strong 5-1 start, these Ducks are showing that they have a formidable team under the leadership of Coach Reed and captains Casey Scherck and Melissa Scott.
Demonstrating the true team nature of the sport, this year's squad presents an unrivaled breadth in the roster which has already been tested by injuries sidelining a group of their star players. "Finding that [they] have more depth this year," the team has uncovered rising stars ready to step up to the vacated positions.
In the first three games, five different players had buried the ball in the net, with four putting a second notch on their stick. Coming off a 10-7 record last season, the Ducks have already announced this year's goal to be nothing less than the conference title. Coach Reed promises that the best is yet to come as the team is still learning to play together. Make sure to follow Ducks field hockey this season, because "once we make that connection, it will be brilliant."
