For twenty-one years the Women's Volleyball Team has been proudly representing Stevens Institute of Technology. Now part of the Skyline conference, the Ducks posted an impressive 31-6 overall record last season, were undefeated in conference, and finished ranked 4th in the NY Region. Led by tri-captains Rachel Ostroff('07), Micki Biltz('08) and JoAnne Pojuner('08), these Ducks are looking forward to a bright season. The team will rely heavily on upperclassmen but are buoyed by experienced freshmen, Laura Johnson, and freshmen Rachel Rolfe who brings great energy to the team.
Using a defense that guards the perimeter of the court and a faster offense with quicker sets to the middle and lower sets to the outside, Coach O'Connell hopes to provide a fast, more exciting style, allowing the players to be more creative with their choices. Their challenging schedule includes thirty-four scheduled matches in less than three months, many against regionally ranked opposition. The starting line-up is filled with players that have been starters in previous seasons and is another reason why Coach O'Connell is looking forward to a competitive season for our Ducks.
Off the court, our Women's Volleyball Team has shown they are student-athletes with the emphasis on student. Having won the Team Academic Award in two of the past four seasons from the American Volleyball Coaches Association, these girls have shown that academics do come first for them even while remaining a force to be reckoned with on the court.
