Students woke up to find out that classes usually held in Davidson Labs had been cancelled or moved to other locations on Monday morning.
With members of both the Stevens and Hoboken police forces on the scene, speculation as to the nature and severity of the incident began to grow. Fueled by the heightened sense of security on 9/11 along with the somewhat sensitive nature of the research going on at Nicholl Environmental Laboratory and the Navy contracts that Davidson Lab holds, the truth of what occurred was not immediately available for public knowledge.
The incident appeared to be simply vandalism and it seems that things from the office were simply lying around, according to Michael Bruno, Director of Davidson Laboratory. Bruno also mentioned that the lab will be looking to bolster security as a result of this incident. However, he clearly noted that "nothing will be done to limit access of labs to students and faculty." Classes will still be held at Davidson labs, and that the only time of concern is when the building is vacant, Bruno said.
The most secret work being done in Davidson Laboratory is the design of the America's Cup yacht, which Davidson Labs is designing in conjunction with Team Oracle, said Bruno.
The police report of the incident was unavailable because the event is still under joint Hoboken and Stevens investigation, Stevens Deputy Chief Wayne Mercurio said.
