Most students are aware that Aramark has informed the school that beginning December 31, 2006, Aramark will no longer be the organization in charge of operating our food services facilities. Aramark currently operates all of the food services in the Howe center and runs the Starbucks branch called America's Cup in the library. Java City in Burchard and the concession stand in the Schaefer Center are also managed by Aramark.
The school has started to research other food services, with some already showing interest. Some possibilities include Sodexho and Chartwell's, but the Institute is investigating several others as well. Stevens plans to make a decision by October 31st.
Some of the most important matters to students, however, are costs and personnel. The school has already committed to the current pricing through the end of the Spring '07 semester, to minimize the impact on financial planning that some students and parents have already completed. As for personnel, many of the current staff are union workers. Thus, they'll be there once again in the spring, regardless of which organization is in charge.
During this changeover, students have a substantial amount of power to make a difference in what food service on campus is selected. Students with something constructive to say about the food or services, or with some suggestions may address emails to dining@stevens.edu. This greatly helps the school with their decision process, as well as makes Stevens a much better place to eat at.
