For the first time in institution memory, a case of aggravated arson was committed within Davis Hall, on the fourth floor. In addition to this action, a threatening note was left in the men's bathroom, which, according to Stevens Police Chief Timothy Griffin, the "note stated a specific threat, for a specific time, in a specific location, that location being Davis.
Over 415 families of accepted students were given the opportunity to experience Stevens this past Sunday as part of the annual Freshmen Tea. This annual reception for accepted students gives them the opportunity to explore Stevens first hand and hear why they should make Stevens their home in the fall.
A hardware-based encryption device called "Pandora's Box," a new way to create algae-based ethanol and an unmanned ultra-lightweight air vehicle. These projects and more were displayed in the Schaefer Center this past Wednesday as part of the annual Senior Design Expo.
The Stevens Political Awareness Committee recently invited three state legislators to attend a general meet and greet in addition to a panel discussion. The event was slated to host Senator Brian P. Stack, Assemblyman Ruben Ramos and Assemblywoman Caridad Rodriguez in Babbio 104 on Wednesday afternoon and included free refreshments and beverages.
On Wednesday night, with the electric candles' flicker glistening off of each black plastic-laden table and the cityscape draping the walls, the mood was set - for Jazz. Popular pieces performed by an ensemble entitled Bandwidth and arrangements by the Stevens Jazz Band filled the dimly-lit Bissinger Room in that quintessential jazz atmosphere.
In order to alert students to the events of this past Wednesday, Stevens Institute of Technology used its recently-implemented "Campus Alerting" system. I had an opportunity to interview Eric Rosenberg, Associate Vice President of Technology and Information Services, about this system.
This past week, the Interfraternity Council (IFC), the Panhellenic Council (Panhel) and the Order of Omega hosted Greek Week. The week started on Monday with Comedian Pete Dominick at 9:30 p.m. in Pierce Dining Hall. On Tuesday, IFC, Panhel and the Order of Omega showed John Landis' Animal House on Palmer Lawn.
After months of hard work and dedication learning dance routines and planning for one of the largest events of the semester on campus, the Ethnic Student Council held their annual Unity Show in the Charles V. Schaefer Jr. Center's Canavan Arena on Friday, April 18th.
