On August 27, 2008, the Co-Op Student Council held a special event to see the Blue Man Group's self-titled stage show at the Astor Place Theatre in New York City. The event, open to the first fifteen interested students, was enjoyed by all.
The show itself is a raucous mix of rock concert, interpretive dance, and audience interaction. Due to the small size of the audience and the proximity of the attending students to the stage, Justin Eusebio was included in a small portion of the show. Beyond Justin, a number of other audience members were also included. Blue Man Group's show is one that must be experienced rather than explained, and no attempt will do it justice. It is completely unique and entirely unlike any other Broadway show, partially because of its heavy focus on audience interaction, but mostly because of its trademark PVC instruments. Several of these instruments were created for specific musical numbers, and these set-pieces, in conjunction with psychedelic lighting and the actions of the Blue men on stage, enhanced the dynamic moods of the show. The theme of the show is much deeper than one might imagine, exploring the nature of curiosity and learning. There is a message here, although flat-out stating it would remove one of the joys of seeing the show live for oneself, and this message makes the Blue Man Group more than just laughing at painted men.
