Student Bands compete in Battle of the Bands

On October 21, 2008, Omicron Pi and WCPR hosted the 5th Annual Battle of the Bands in the Bissinger Room of the Howe Center. This year's bill included Steamroller of Love, The Reveling, Los Pocos Locos, Plan B, Heavy Cut, and Doath Rryjoe Experience - six highly unique and talented groups. Steamroller of Love was an acoustic group, and The Reveling was a punk rock group, while the other four were mainstream and classic rock, according to Omicron Pi philanthropy chair Briana Gilmartin, also Business Manager of The Stute. Some students may also recognize Los Pocos Locos, a surf rock band who performed as part of Bokenstock during the Spring 2008 semester.
Doath Rryjoe Experience won the first prize, a $150 gift certificate to Guitar Center, while The Reveling took second and Plan B took third, winning $100 and $50 gift certificates, respectively.
Omicron Pi and WCPR each dedicated a substantial amount of time and effort to preparing for the event. Omicron Pi ran publicity for weeks before the show, running a ticket stand outside the Pierce Dining Room, as well as designing and buying T-shirts for all crew members. Matthew Keyser, General Manager of WCPR and Copy Editor of The Stute, noted that WCPR "started at 4 p.m. to set up equipment and we got done with maybe fifteen minutes to spare." Additionally, SITTV was on hand to film the event.
The event was a success, with over $750 raised through ticket sales, according to both Gilmartin and Keyser. Omicron Pi will continue dorm storming through the week to raise more money, in an attempt to reach their goal of at least $800. All proceeds go to fight Crohn's Disease and Colitis.
