The Stevens Climbing and Mountaineering Club held its first trip of the semester, to the indoor rock gym The Gravity Vault in Upper Saddle River, NJ on Wednesday.
The purpose of the trip was to promote awareness of the club and to bring in new members. Only six students attended this trip, including President Joanna Sweetgall and Vice-President Ceci Arias. According to Sweetgall and Arias, the club hopes to continue trips to area rock gyms, such as Fairfield's New Jersey Rock Gym and Morganville's Garden State Rocks. In addition to the planned monthly rock gym trips, the club hopes to take advantage of Stevens' comparatively limited facilities in Jacobus Hall, and hopes, at some point in the future, to have an outdoor climbing trip.
Although this event was not very heavily attended, heavy postering and further publicity and events should help this promising club be more successful. For more information on trips, the club can be contacted via email at stevens.rock.on@gmail.com.
