Al Gore speaks to Congress about the dangers of Global Warming. Gore, who won an Oscar for "Best Documentary," spoke to Congress on Thursday warning the lawmakers about the dangers of widespread climate change and asking for sweeping changes to exhaust regulations and energy consumption. The changes are supported by many Congressmen, including representatives of the Detroit auto manufacturers, who have traditionally been the strongest opponents to changes in energy restrictions.
North Korea sits out six-party nuclear talks because of frozen assets. At issue is an estimated $25 million US, frozen in a Macau bank on suspicion of funding terrorism as well as a general US policy toward North Korea. The funds are expected to be transferred by the end of next week, at which point the talks will resume. In these talks, North Korea, the United States, China, and other nations hope to provide North Korea with foreign aid in exchange for North Korea ending its controversial nuclear weapons.
Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove are under fire for the firing of eight federal prosecutors. The eight prosecutors were fired shortly after the midterm elections for unclear reasons. Research shows few recorded reasons for the firings, and the move is believed to be politically motivated. Rove commented that such actions were normal and that former president Clinton did so several times during his administration; however further research showed this to be untrue.
